It’s a bit of a challenge, to pull him up, and Trevor doesn’t really care for the implications of that. A few months of insufficient food has done a number on his muscle mass, though he doesn’t quite understand it enough to put it into those words. All he knows is that he used to be able to lift this much weight with ease and now he’s struggling. But eventually, Adrian is free of the pit. ]
It is a boy, sir! [ He turns and shouts back toward a campfire a little distance away, then turns his attention back to Adrian. ] Are you hurt?

Adrian smiles, remembers with practice to turn his chin down to hide his fangs. This way, he also just looks humble despite his clean clothes and well kept appearance in comparison to this boy's.]
I'm all right. Thank you for helping me out of there. Sorry if I wasn't what you were expecting.
[Wolves, right? He wonders why they're hunting wolves. It doesn't even occur to him right away. They're wonderful creatures.]

[ He rubs the back of his head sheepishly and he's about to continue speaking when there's a grumbling from the direction of the fire. ]
Can't fuckin' sell boy furs.
[ The older trapper complains as he comes over to see what's happening, then pauses as he looks Adrian over. Adrian and his clean, fine, well-kept clothes. At once his demeanor changes, face splitting into a warm smile. ]
Come sit at the fire, lad. You must be freezing. Trevor, get the boy something to eat.

[A smile is given to Trevor -- that's his name, the man says so -- and he does mean it. He wonders idly if wolf furs do go for much, but Mother has always said that the lives of the common man are a difficult lot. He could only imagine.
The trapper is given a glance. Adrian, for all that he does not know, is still not that naive; the demeanor is different, but he guesses it has to do with how he appears. Still, he won't be rude, and he nods.]
Thank you, sir. That's gracious of you.
[Truthfully, he's not cold, but they wouldn't know. Still, he approaches the fire obediently, not planning on making a fuss.
When they're asleep, he'll escape. That seems the easiest thing.]

Here. He says, holding out the bowl. But it's the trapper who takes it from him, looking down at it with a frown. ]
Ah, I can't serve you this as is. It must be hard enough to be subjected to peasant food, let alone bland peasant food. Let me just spice it properly.
[ ...the bowl Smells Very Wrong when it's finally handed to Adrian. ]
no subject
Still, he expects it's better to not risk it.]
That's an interesting smell, sir. What spice did you say it was?
[How to get out of this. He thinks he could easily outrun both of them, but he doesn't want to cause trouble. That, and he thinks that maybe Trevor is here in a bad way.]
no subject
Sir, he's not hurt. He doesn't need dwa-
It's thyme, lad. Not much, but I'm afraid it's the best we have. Eat up, we'll take care of you.
[ It's not thyme. The trapper glares Trevor into silence, and he just fidgets uncomfortably. ]
no subject
Sir? He's not your father?
[He might as well try to get a better understanding of this situation.]
no subject
Trevor here is my assistant. A little dense, to be going about catching boys in the traps. But he's a good boy. Knows how to keep quiet.
[ Keep quiet is emphasised there, in a way that makes Trevor flinch. ]
Did you say where you were from? Your family must miss you terribly.
no subject
Adrian isn't foolish enough to believe everything, but he minds himself.]
A small village, Lupu. But my family is traveling. I like to explore, but I got a bit far out and then I was lost. That's about when I fell into your trap.
[That's a lie. He isn't lost at all, and he can track himself back home, but the truth would hardly do him well here. Still, he makes a show of being sheepish, laughing a little before accidentally spilling most of the stew to the ground.]
Oh! I'm sorry. Father's always said I've got clumsy hands. [yeah he's not eating your drugged food]
no subject
You know the place? Good. Head out there. Find this lad's family, and ask them what their boy is worth to them. Tell them if they pay double that, he'll even keep his clumsy hands.
[ And with that the man lunges forward, grabbing at Adrian's hair. ]
no subject
Adrian doesn't wait to see what happens next; he's running to Trevor, grabbing for his hand to drag him away.]
Come on!
no subject
There's-! [ He stumbles with his words. ] Another pit, right ahead!
[ Sure enough, it can be spotted if one knows what to look for. Grass pushed down a little, with a bird's carcass laid out in the middle of it. ]
no subject
[Now that he definitely knows what to look for, Adrian absolutely sees the trap, but he doesn't change course at all. Instead, he keeps charging ahead, then turns and puts both his arms around Trevor before taking a leap. A leap that is most definitely not a normal one as he launches the both of them over the length of the trap before landing on the other side.]
Let's keep going. We can lose him in the woods!
no subject
And so he just keeps running, trying to keep pace with the other boy. In the woods, the moonlight is scarce and he can't see, but every time he trips he just keeps moving his legs as Adrian drags him forward until his feet hit the ground properly again. And just a little after the point that breathing in burns and his legs feel like jelly, he listens, and there are only two sets of foorsteps audible instead of three.
He lets his pace slow, pulling Adrian back to slow him down as well. ]
I don't hear him anymore.
no subject
What a brute. [Adrian huffs for a moment before turning his attention to Trevor.] Why were you staying with someone like that? Is he the one that hurt you?
