a broken mirror only shows as best it can | it's don abbacchio time

Shortly after Florentino died is when Abbacchio was thrown off the force for the bribes he took. A proper salt in the wound that he couldn't exactly fault anyone but himself for getting weak like that, even if nobody else in the police had cleaner hands than him. Still, he's the one that was ratted out, and that's all that matters. For a time, he lived a depraved lifestyle, accepting that he was the one that should've died. He drinks until he can't think, and halfway expects to die in an alley with either a bullet to him or because his liver's finally given up.

What happened, in fact, is that he saw something he shouldn't have.

Someone had been grumbling about it won't matter if I just relight it before I go back, the words meaning nothing to him. Blearily, Abbacchio peered around the corner from where he was, half-awake in his drunken stupor. Something tore his very soul out of his body, piercing him with an arrow and giving him what he thought to be a burden at first. A creature that would wear the face of his mistakes, even if all he ever wanted subconsciously was to see Florentino again. Eventually, he did realize that this being was just trying to deliver that wish somehow, unintentionally hurting him in the process.

So really, he couldn't be mad at it. Instead, Abbacchio decided to try to find out what the hell caused this to happen.

They're called Stands, and much of Passione has people who use them. Each Stand is unique, representing the fighting spirit of a person. It would explain in part how the mafia became so powerful so fast if people did indeed develop Stands that could crush their foes under their feet, but it's something too big for him to deal with. Yet, Abbacchio has always had a hard time leaving a mystery alone, and the biggest one was the identity of Passione's Don, simply known as the Boss.

And there was something else interesting. The recent brutal execution of members of La Squadra Esecuzioni, because they became nosy themselves.

Well. It just so happened that Moody Blues was perfect for this kind of thing.

He cut a deal with their capo, Risotto Nero. He would help them find and kill the Boss, but obviously not without a price. It was an opportunity to take back his broken dream and reshape it into something maybe worthwhile. It was the mafia's power that corrupted his dream, so he would take control of the mafia himself.

With all of the assassins, they were able to not just kill the Boss, but Abbacchio also delivered on the identities of the one that killed their teammates. A gift of good faith, Abbacchio had remarked. He didn't give a shit about monstrous people like Cioccolata and his "pet", Secco. Risotto and his team could do with them as they pleased.

La Squadra Esecuzioni is paid proper now, and they're satisfied with their hard work being taken into account. Abbacchio keeps his identity mostly a secret, but he isn't concerned about Risotto and the others knowing him. Risotto's about as close to a friend as he has right now, so he talks to him the most, sorting out his plans and making sure it's profitable without compromising too hard on his morality.

So yeah, narcotics is something he's been working on the most, which is something that a good chunk of Passione isn't pleased about but putting down any insurrections is done swiftly. Some people left as a message for others, some gone quietly.

He reinstates himself onto the police force. Less to achieve his dream now, and more to keep his ear to the ground and have a realistic view of Italy. The police have no choice but to listen to the Don, whoever he may be, and though Abbacchio has no friends there he thinks he can make better judgments like this than in a giant fucking mansion. He can work when he pleases, and no one has control over him anymore. What can the police do except obey the Don?

So here he is, today, Officer Abbacchio: currently picking up a coffee for himself because the day is going to be long and a pain in the ass.
